Personal Safety - Out and About
Statistics show that a lot of the crimes we hear about on the news are quite rare. However there are some steps you can take to keep yourself safe such as:
- Let someone know where you are going and when you will return.
- Don't walk alone and stick to well-lit streets
- Never accept a lift from a stranger or an unmarked taxi
- Look confident and pay attention to what is going on
- Don't have valuables on display such as a mobile phone or wallet
- If on a bus or train sit near other people

Personal Safety - On the Internet
The net is a brilliant place to find information and some simple steps can ensure that it is also safe:
- Never give out personal information online like your name, address, phone number, email address or picture of yourself.
- Let your parent/guardian know if you are using chat rooms.
- Remember that people you meet on the internet might not be who they say they are.
- Never meet up with someone you have met on the internet without a parent/guardian's permission and always ask an adult to come with you until you are sure that they are who they say they are. Always arrange to meet in a busy place.
- If you get rude, unpleasant or nasty emails, tell someone straight away.
